About Shamandura |
||||
| In 1978, Shamandura read a magazine story about a woman who took belly dance lessons and ended up performing in restaurants. Shamandura was so intrigued that she decided to study belly dance herself. While she is currently on sabbatical from teaching group classes for the City of Edmonds Park Department, she continues to teach private traditional American style belly dance lessons. | |||||
| Shamandura traveled to Morocco in 1986 and to Egypt in 1988 to study the cultures and dance. She believes it's important for students to understand Middle Eastern cultures and dances if they are to feel comfortable performing American style belly dance, which is actually a blend of dance moves from several Middle Eastern countries. | |||||
| In addition to the many folkloric dances she teaches, Shamandura also performs the traditional Shamadan (Egyptian Candelabra) Wedding Dance, and Wings of Isis. | |||||
| Shamandura believes that belly dance is a beautiful art form for women of any age, and that it can make every woman feel beautiful! | |||||
| Shamandura is the author of two published cookbooks, Simply Salmon and Simply Shrimp, and a third book, Poetry of Pain. Visit Simply Books for more information and to order her books. | |||||
